Boating trip turns rocky as Severn man faces impaired charges

Police say there were four persons and pets aboard the boat that was returning from the Beckwith Island area

A weekend trip to Beckwith Island was no picnic for a Severn Township man.

Marine officers from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the OPP conducted an equipment check on a 30-foot Sea Ray vessel just south of Giants Tomb Island.

Police say there were four persons and pets aboard the boat that was returning from the Beckwith Island area.

The officers spoke with the driver of the boat and entered into a drinking and driving investigation, notes a media release.  As a result, a Severn Township man was "charged criminally with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)."

The accused was released from custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 18, 2022. The accused has also lost his driving privileges for seven days as a result of having his licence suspended.
