OPP continues to investigate homicide

The death of Jordon Carter-Bonfield continues to be investigated and the OPP made another arrest in connection with his death on Monday

ORILLIA, - On Monday July 30, 2018, officers from the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Orillia Fire Department and the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services (CSPS) responded to a report of a male who had been located in medical distress in the parking lot of a business located at Westmount Drive North and Woodside Drive, in the City of Orillia. As a result, Jordon Carter-Bonfield, 25-years-old from Orillia, died of his injuries. 

The initial investigation led police to arrest a 20-year-old Orillia man with Accessory After the Fact to Murder and a young person who cannot be named with Second Degree Murder.

In late September 2018, police arrested and charged a 44-year-old and 33-year-old males both from Orillia with Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence contrary to Section 465(1)(c) of the Criminal Code and two counts each of Breach of Probation contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code.

A First Instance Warrant, for Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence contrary to Section 465(1)(c) of the Criminal and Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to Section 129 of the Criminal Code, was issued for a 24-year-old Orillia man in connection with this incident. As a result, on October 22, 2018, Zachary Jones-Sheppard was arrested in Severn Township. The accused is being held in custody with a scheduled court date of November 2, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.

This incident remains under investigation by the Orillia Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Matt Watson of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. If anyone has any information regarding this incident they are encouraged to contact the Orillia OPP at 705-326-3536 or 1-888-310-1122.
