OPP seeking witnesses to fatal motorcycle crash near Victoria Harbour (updated)

10:45 p.m. update

Witnesses Sought

Investigators are seeking any witnesses who may have observed or have dash cam video of any incident involving an motorcycle over the last few days in or approaching the intersection of Highway 12 at Gervais Road, Tay Township. Also damaged in the crash was the Ministry of Transportation large roadside sign indicating Gervais Road and investigators would like to hear from anyone who may have observed that the sign was damaged also over the last few days.

4:30 p.m. update:

The lone male operator of the lone involved motorcycle is the confirmed deceased person from today's crash.

Officers are continuing to investigate into the identity of the deceased and the cause of the crash with updates to be provided as they become available.

1:30 p.m. update:

As of 1:25 p.m. Aug. 31, 2021 Highway was reopened for regular traffic. The investigation into the crash is continuing with updates being provided as they become available.

Original 9:30 a.m. release:

OPP officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment currently have Highway 12 closed at Gervais Road, Tay Township for a fatal motorcycle crash at that location. Officers are being assisted by OPP Central Region Traffic Investigators and K-9 at the scene which was located this am at 7:10 a.m. by a motorist.

Need to know:

A detour route of Gratrix Road or Vasey Road is suggested for west bound Highway 12 traffic and Granny Whites Side Road or Highway 93 and Vasey Road is suggested for east bound Highway 12 traffic.
