OPP plan RIDE checks for Canada Day weekend

Charges laid against Midland driver for impaired driving this week.

MIDLAND – With Canada Day Weekend starting, members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be busy checking for driver sobriety at R.I.D.E. check stops on detachment area roadways and waterways.

Over the last seven days, almost 400 drivers were checked between June 23 and June 29, 2018. Officers also investigated 27 separate crashes in this time period.

On June 27, 2018, at 3:25 p.m. officers were dispatched to investigate a complaint of a possible impaired driver in the Town of Midland. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and driver and upon speaking with the male driver they entered into a drinking and driving investigation on Yonge Street.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, William Anthony Monague, 61, of Midland has been charged with CC 253(1)(a) Care or Control While Impaired (Alcohol and Drug) contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada and further Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada. His driving privileges have been suspended for 90 days and he was released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on July 12, 2018.
