OPP use spikebelt, dogs to corral suspects who fled police (3 photos)

Two high-end cars were stolen from Bracebridge area and raced up Highway 11; One suspect fled into the woods but both suspects are now in custody

It was like a scene out of a movie.

Officers from two OPP detachments joined forces Friday afternoon after two high-end vehicles were stolen from the Bracebridge area.

As the two culprits raced down Highway 11 south in their heisted vehicles, officers from the Bracebridge OPP contacted their brethren from the Orillia detachment to help thwart the speeding thieves who were wreaking havoc on the busy highway.

A portion of the highway was shut down so a spike belt could be laid across the two lanes just south of the West Street exit near Orillia Square mall. The deployment was successful, forcing both cars, eventually, to careen off the highway. Both were badly damaged.

One suspect fled into the woods near the Hawk Ridge Golf Club. An OPP helicopter was called in along with the emergency response team and the canine unit.

The two tracking dogs helped to locate the male who fled, officials say.

Both suspects are now in custody, according to a Tweet from the OPP at 8:15 p.m. No other information was released by the OPP.
