Orillia man, 35, faces multiple charges after fleeing police

On July 31, 2018 the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police arrested a man after he failed to stop for police in the City of Orillia.

On July 31, 2018 at approximately 7:33 p.m., Orillia OPP members observed a vehicle on Mississaga Street commit an offence under the Highway Traffic Act. Police attempted to stop the vehicle however it did not stop for police. 

A short while later police stopped the vehicle at Ashton Street and Louise Lane. The male, a 35-year-old Orillia man was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Flight while pursued by peace officer contrary to section 249.1(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Three counts of fail to comply with probation order contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of a schedule I substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Several Highway Traffic Act offences.

The accused was also wanted on several other outstanding charges. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 1, 2018.
