Orillia man charged after police told he was abducted

On Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018 members of the Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an alleged abduction which originated on Front Street in the City of Orillia.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Barrie OPP members responded to a call from someone reporting that a friend was in trouble and headed toward Barrie from Orillia along Highway 11, with two other males.

Barrie and Aurora OPP members along with Barrie Police Service (BPS) attended a Hanmer Street location in Barrie where an injured male was found. Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Central Region Canine were dispatched to the scene to assist in locating suspects. Police located two more injured males at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) in Barrie a short while later and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the initial complaint.

The Orillia OPP Crime Unit along with Central Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS) were called to assist with the investigation.

As a result of the thorough and detailed investigation which continued throughout most of the day, police charged a 24-year-old man from Orillia with two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of assault. The male who has been charged was originally reported to be the person who was abducted.

The male is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia for a Bail hearing on Jan. 26, 2018.
