While many were enjoying their long weekend with friends and loved ones, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police arrested several impaired drivers - including an Orillia man.

On Sunday, Aug. 4, at at approximately 6:47 p.m., officers were conducting seatbelt enforcement initiative in the area of Hurontario Street and Highway 410, when one of the officers observed a driver switching seats with a passenger.

A traffic stop was conducted and an approved screening device demand was made on the driver. The driver registered a "fail" and was subsequently arrested and transported to Caledon Detachment for further tests.

As a result, Jeevan VASHISHT, 44, of Orillia, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration equal to or exceeding 80 mgs, and
  • Driving while under suspension.

The accused is expected to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 22, 2019, to answer to the charges.
