Orillia man nabbed for driving while impaired by drugs

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made an arrest in relation to driving a motor vehicle while impaired by a drug in the City of Orillia.

On Nov. 15, 2019 at approximately 2 p.m. members from the Orillia OPP entered into a traffic investigation. Upon approach of the vehicle it was learned that the driver had a warrant issued for his arrest. 

Further investigation revealed that the driver is also prohibited from driving. While effecting the arrest police noticed behaviours that are consistent with being impaired by drugs.

As a result of the investigation police arrested the driver Darcen Power, age 26, of Orillia. The accused has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While impaired contrary to Section 320.14(1)(c) of the Criminal Code.
  • Operation While Prohibited contrary to Section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Driving While Under Suspension contrary to Section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Three counts of Breach of Probation contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was held in custody and is set to appear next, on Nov. 20, 2019, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie.
