Orillia OPP charge four with impaired driving in five days

Members of the Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged four drivers with impaired driving between May 28 and June 1.

On May 28, shortly after 7:30 p.m., Orillia OPP stopped a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed while conducting speed enforcement in the Township of Oro-Medonte.

As a result of the investigation, Wayne Mann, 42, of Barrie, has been charged with operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs) and operation while impaired (blood alcohol-concentration 80-plus).

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on June 14.

On May 30, shortly before 8 p.m., Orillia OPP were dispatched to an address in the north end of Orillia for a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was located by officers and upon speaking to the driver an impaired driving investigation was commenced.

As a result of the investigation, Lorne Collins, 67, of Orillia, has been charged with operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on June 21.

On May 31, shortly after 7:30 p.m., Orillia OPP responded to multiple driving complaints for the same vehicle from concerned citizens in Severn Township.

As a result of the investigation, Ricky Leduc, 39, of Tay Township, has been charged with operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs), operation while impaired (blood alcohol-concentration 80-plus) and driving a motor vehicle without a licence.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, on June 21.

On June 1, shortly after 12:30 a.m., Orillia OPP stopped a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 11 in Oro-Medonte Township. Upon stopping the vehicle, police entered into an impaired driving investigation.

As a result of the investigation, Parker Grossul, 18, of Severn Township, has been charged with operation while impaired (blood alcohol-concentration 80-plus).

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on June 21.

"The Orillia OPP is committed to stopping impaired drivers who endanger lives through strategies such as focused patrols, RIDE initiatives, enforcement and public education. Impaired driving is a serious crime and will not be tolerated on our roadways, trails or waterways,” said Insp. Coyer Yateman, detachment commander, Orillia OPP.

“Remember, no amount of alcohol or drug in your system is safe when driving. If you plan on drinking alcohol or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan. We appreciate and rely on our community members to contribute to everyone’s safety and report impaired driving incidents by calling 911.”
