Orillia woman charged after loaded gun, cash, drugs seized during traffic stop

Guelph police confiscated a handgun, drugs and cash during a traffic stop.

An Orillia female faces a long list of charges after a loaded handgun, large amount of cash and drugs were seized during a traffic stop in Guelph Saturday evening.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., officers on patrol observed a motor vehicle stopped in front of a residence in the area of Brant Avenue and Victoria Road North.

The motor vehicle was a rental vehicle and officers pulled it over a short distance away to confirm who was driving it. While speaking to the female driver, officers observed a glass pipe containing a crystal-type substance believed to be methamphetamine. The driver was arrested for possessing a controlled substance.

During a subsequent search of the motor vehicle, officers discovered a loaded, unregistered .40-calibre handgun and approximately $15,000 cash inside a purse, as well as a small amount of cannabis.

A 29-year-old Orillia female is charged with:

  • Possession schedule I- other drugs (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Careless use of firearm
  • Carry concealed weapon
  • Transport firearm contrary to regulations
  • Possession of property obtained by crime- over $5000
  • Driver fail to surrender licence
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

She was held for a bail hearing Monday.
