Police charge two local ATV operators with alcohol offences

Their driver's licences have both been suspended for 90 days

GRAVENHURST - The Ontario Provincial Police SAVE (Snow-vehicle, All Terrain Vehicle, Vessel Enforcement) team, working with the Ministry of Natural Resources have charged two males in separate incidents for operating their ATVs (all-terrain vehicles).

On Nov. 5, 2018 at approximately 5:30 p.m. while patrolling in Gravenhurst, the OPP SAVE team officer along with a MNR officer stopped an ATV. In speaking with the male operator, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation led to the male being arrested by police.

Richard Duiker, a 59-year-old male from Springwater Township has been charged with:

  • CC 253(1)(b) driving with more than 80 mgs. of alcohol in blood

On Nov. 6, 2018 at approximately 11:50 a.m., while patrolling in Gravenhurst, an OPP SAVE team officer along with a MNR officer stopped an ATV. In speaking with the operator, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation led to the male being arrested by police. 

James Traynor a 57-year-old male from Gravenhurst was charged with:

  • CC 254(5) fail or refuse to provide sample 254(2)

Their driver's licences have both been suspended for 90 days under the administrative drivers licence suspension (ADLS) and they will appear in court in early December to answer to their respective charges.
