Teen killed in James Street crash (UPDATE: Alcohol not a factor)

Orillia OPP Const. Martin Hill was able to provide a few more details about yesterday's crash this morning.

He said the 16-year-old who died was a passenger in the Chevrolet Cobalt that struck a telephone pole. He also confirmed alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The other three youth involved in the crash were not seriously hurt.

On July 26, 2018, the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle collision on James Street in the City of Orillia.

On July 26, 2018 at approximately 2:20 a.m., a vehicle travelling east on James Street between West Street South and Memorial Avenue at a high rate of speed lost control and struck a telephone pole. The vehicle was occupied by four youths between the ages of 16 and 18.

A 16-year-old male was transported to a Toronto area hospital by the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services (CSPS). The 16-year-old youth died as a result of the injuries sustained in collision. The other youth were brought to an Orillia area hospital by CSPS with minor injuries.

As a result of this incident, the Central Region Technical Collision Investigators were called in to investigate further.
