Police make arrest in counterfeit currency investigation

Over the past few weeks the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have been made aware of counterfeit United States currency in the City of Orillia.

On Feb. 15, 2018 at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Orillia OPP Community Street Crime Unit along with Orillia OPP members and Central Region Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a Dorset Drive residence in relation to counterfeit currency.

Police arrested one female at the residence and seized items to support the use of counterfeit currency. The female was released while police continue to investigate this incident.

The Orillia OPP and Orillia CSCU would like to remind local businesses and citizens alike to be cautious when accepting American money or large bills in Canadian currency. Please take the steps to protect your interests by not accepting certain bills or deal with a financial institution.

The Orillia OPP continues to investigate the use of 100 and 20 dollar denominations in United States Currency within the city of Orillia. If anyone has information regarding counterfeit currency they are encouraged to contact the Orillia OPP at 705-326-3536 or 1-888-310-1122.
