Police nab Orillia man breaking into Atherley Road business

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have made an arrest in relation to several break and enters to local businesses in the city of Orillia.

Shortly after midnight on Sept. 15, 2018 police were called to a business on Atherley Road in Orillia with reports of a break and enter in progress. Police arrived quickly and after a short foot chase arrested 49-year-old Cory Stefanick of Orillia for the break and enter.

Police continued the investigation and were able to link the accused to several more break and enters to local businesses.

The accused was charged with the following offences:

  • Seven counts of break and enter with intent to commit and indictable offence Contrary to Section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
  • Four counts of theft under $5,000 contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to Section 355(b) of the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of break-in instruments contrary to Section 351(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused has been held in custody and has a court appearance on Sept. 20, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
