The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is investigating two bank robberies in the City of Orillia.

On July 11, 2019, shortly after 3:30 p.m. a lone male walked into a downtown Orillia bank and handed the teller a note demanding cash. The suspect then fled, empty-handed, from the bank through the rear parking lot.

About two hours later, the same male walked into a west end bank and again handed the teller a note demanding cash. An undisclosed amount of cash was handed over and the suspect then exited the bank through the front entrance. No weapon was seen during either occurrence.

A thorough search of the area was conducted by OPP members, Aviation services, the OPP Canine unit and members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) who were unable to locate the suspect at that time.

The Orillia Major Crime Unit is continuing to investigate and, as a result, an arrest warrant has been issued for Avery Nickerson, age 35 of Parry Sound, ON. The OPP is searching for the accused in relation to this active investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Orillia OPP at 705-326-3536 or 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Charges include two counts of Robbery CC 344(1)(b), two counts of Disguise with Intent 351(2) and additional charges.

On July 17, 2019, the suspect was arrested in the City of Barrie by Barrie Police Service.

The suspect was brought to Orillia where he is being held in custody pending a bail hearing on July 18, 2019, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
