The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are again warning the public about counterfeit American currency discovered in the City of Orillia.
On Feb. 2, 2018, police received a call regarding a phony 100 United States dollar bill that had been accepted as payment at a local business. The business owner attempted to deposit the note in the bank and was advised that it was a fake. Upon closer inspection, the bill did have signs that it was a counterfeit. If anyone has any information regarding the identity of this person or was a witness to this incident they are encouraged to contact the Orillia OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or 705-326-3536.
The Orillia OPP would like to remind local businesses and citizens alike to be cautious when accepting USD or large bills in Canadian currency. Please take steps to protect your interests by not accepting certain bills or dealing with financial institutions for currency exchange.
