Police seize cash, gun and cocaine in Memorial Avenue traffic stop

North York man faces several charges and remains in custody pending April 17 court date

ORILLIA - The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a North York man in connection with possession of a firearm and drug trafficking in the City of Orillia.

On April 9, 2019 members of the Orillia OPP with the Orillia Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) conducted a traffic stop on Memorial Avenue in Orillia. As a result of a short investigation police were able to seize a quantity of cocaine, cash, and a handgun. Central Region Canine was called in to assist with the investigation.

As a result of the traffic stop police have charged 26-year-old, Jawayne Lewis of North York with Possession of a Schedule I Substance, Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and nine firearms related charges.

The accused was held in custody and is set to appear via video on April 17, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
