The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is issuing a public safety announcement regarding driver behaviour including turning and attentiveness on the road.

In the past two weeks the Orillia OPP have responded to four collisions where motorists were not paying attention resulting in injuries to a person.

When the driver of a vehicle approaches an intersection to turn left or right it is their responsibility to be on the lookout for other motorists, cyclists or pedestrians.

When driving on the highways it is important to pay attention to the road and be cognizant of your surroundings at all times. Whether or not someone else made a mistake, in many incidents you could avoid a collision simply by paying attention to the road; watching for other vehicles and pedestrians.

Road safety is everyone's responsibility including motorists, pedestrians, parents, educators and police. If we work together by making an effort to obey the rules of the road and being a courteous driver we can improve the safety on Ontario's highways.

The Orillia OPP is committed to serving our province by protecting its citizens, upholding the law and preserving public safety. If you have any information about crime in our community please contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). You can submit your information online at www.crimestopperssdm.com if you have any information on this crime or any other crime. Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to call display and you will remain anonymous. Being anonymous, you will not testify in court and your information may lead to a cash reward of up to $2000.
