Search team recovers body of missing boater in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE - On Monday, Aug. 19, 2019 at around 5 p.m., Huntsville and Lake of Bays Fire Department, Muskoka EMS and Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised two missing people in Peninsula Lake, Huntsville, Ont.

Members located a female in a boat advising that her husband and son had gone in for a swim, the wind had picked up and the boat floated away from the two. She was unable to get the boat started, and immediately called 911 for assistance. Huntsville Fire Marine, Huntsville OPP Marine, CFOPP searched the waters for the missing people.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2019, members of the Under Water Search and Recovery Unit located the missing male in the water. Huntsville OPP have identified the deceased male as Martin Scholz, a 56-year-old male from Toronto, Ont.

Huntsville OPP would like to thank everyone for their assistance in this tragic event.
