Severn man charged with impaired after Highway 12 incident

Police say officer had to pull in front of vehicle in an attempt to stop driver on Highway 12; 31-year-old driver is facing four charges

A Severn man is facing four charges after being stopped by Orillia OPP on Thursday.

Police stated in a news release a vehicle was seen being driven erratically on Highway 12 in Orillia shortly after 9:30 p.m.

“Upon initiating a traffic stop, the vehicle continued for a distance until the officer was able to stop the vehicle by pulling in front of it,” police said.

Suspected of impaired driving, the driver was taken to the Orillia OPP detachment for further investigation.

Michael McCauley, 31, has been charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus), dangerous operation and fail to stop for police.

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on June 7. He was issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded.
