Severn Township man nabbed for impaired, speeding

On Wednesday Sept. 11, 2019 at approximately 8:20 p.m. the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were on general patrol conducting speed enforcement on Upper Big Chute Road in Severn Township.

At this time officers noted a vehicle at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was travelling 150 kilometers per hour in a posted 80 kilometer per hour zone.

Upon approach of the vehicle police determined, through and an investigation, the driver was impaired by alcohol.

Stephan Deneau, age 24, of Severn Township was charged with impaired driving offences under the Criminal Code and stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

The suspect was released on a promise to appear with a court date of Oct. 15, 2019, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia. He was also issued a part 3 summons for the same court date. His driver's license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded.
