Suspect accused of attempted murder after disturbance in Omemee

Three people were injured at the apartment building, with one sent to a Toronto trauma centre, says City of Kawartha Lakes OPP

A person has been charged with attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault after three people were injured following a disturbance late Saturday night at an apartment building in Omemee.

Officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP remain on scene to investigate the incident but, according to a media release issued this evening, there is no threat to public safety.

Police responded to a disturbance call at 10:30 p.m. and three people were found injured at the apartment building and subsequently taken to an area hospital. One person was later transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre.

The suspect was "quickly located and arrested" and was charged. The accused, who is not being named to protect the identity of the victims, was remanded into custody and will appear in court in Lindsay on July 7. 

"Residents in Omemee can expect to see an increase in police presence over the next few days as the investigation remains ongoing with members of the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB)," noted the OPP's media release.
