Suspect in July 2 hit and run arrested

Ajax woman faces impaired driving, fail to remain and other charges

ORILLIA, ON - The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are continuing to investigate a fail to remain collision which sent one male to hospital with life altering injuries.

On July 02, 2019 at approximately 2:40 p.m., police responded to a collision on Highway 12 in Ramara Township involving a pickup truck, which fled the scene, and a motorcycle. With the assistance of the public, police located and stopped the truck. The female driver, Vanessa Mitchell, age 41 of Ajax, ON was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired causing bodily harm - Criminal Code 320.14(2)
  • Operation while impaired - Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) - Criminal Code 320.14(1)(b)
  • Fail to remain - Highway Traffic Act 200(1)(a)
  • Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor - Liquor Licence Act 32(1)
  • Have care or control of vehicle with cannabis readily available - Cannabis Control Act 2017 12(1)

The suspect was released on a Promise to Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 30, 2019.
