Suspect in Toronto library shooting nabbed in Bracebridge

Two Bracebridge residents also facing long list of charges as a result of joint investigation

On February 23, 2019 the Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and the Toronto Police Service (TPS) West Command, Gun Violence Suppression Unit engaged in a joint investigation into the whereabouts of a male wanted for charges relating to a shooting that occurred in a Toronto Library in early February.

As a result of the investigation, the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), executed a warrant at an address on Fraserburg Road in the Town of Bracebridge.

Four parties were arrested, including the male wanted for the shooting. A loaded 9mm handgun was located as well as a .22 calibre handgun, .22 calibre rifle and a 12 gauge shotgun. In addition, cocaine and a large quantity of Canadian currency were seized.

The following people have been charged:  

Nathaniel WHITE (20) of Toronto is charged with the following offences:

  • Four (4) counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm contrary to Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm contrary to Section 95(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm contrary to Section 95(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two (2) counts of Possession of Unauthorized Firearm contrary to Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Restricted Firearm contrary to Section 95(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Breach of Recognizance (Peace Bond) contrary to Section 811 of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • WHITE is also facing numerous charges from the TPS in relation to the early February shooting.

 Brandon Anthony (Tony) HOWELL (25) of Toronto is charged with the following offences:

  • Four (4) counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm contrary to Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm contrary to Section 95(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm contrary to Section 95(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two (2) counts of Possession of Unauthorized Firearm contrary to Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Restricted Firearm contrary to Section 95(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Blayne ROPER (30) of Bracebridge is charged with the following offences:

  • Four (4) counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm contrary to Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm contrary to Section 95(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm contrary to Section 95(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two (2) counts of Possession of Unauthorized Firearm contrary to Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Restricted Firearm contrary to Section 95(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Two (2) counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to Section 145(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Firearm contrary to Prohibition Order contrary to Section117.01(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Kaitlyn BROOKS (23) of Bracebridge is charged with the following offences:

  • Four (4) counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm contrary to Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm contrary to Section 95(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm contrary to Section 95(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two (2) counts of Possession of Unauthorized Firearm contrary to Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Restricted Firearm contrary to Section 95(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Two (2) counts of Fail to Comply with Undertaking contrary to Section 145(5.1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

All accused were held in custody and will appear for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Monday.
