13-year-old teen, Muneer, remains in critical condition after being the victim of an assault.

A 13-year-old Bradford teen who was allegedly assaulted by another boy earlier last week and is in hospital from his injuries is showing slight signs of improvement but remains in critical condition, according to police.

The teen, identified by family and in media reports as Muneer Mounir, was taken to hospital after collapsing shortly after arriving home from school on Sept. 14.

According to a GoFundMe page set up by Mounir's brother and his girlfriend, Mounir suffered from severe trauma to the head leading to a brain hemorrhage and later a stroke as he collapsed.

An investigation conducted by the South Simcoe Police Service's Criminal Investigation Bureau determined the teen had been injured in a physical altercation.

The altercation was filmed and shared on social media.

Investigators received video of the incident and are thanking members of the public for their assistance after issuing an appeal for the video earlier this week.

As a result of the investigation, a 13-year-old Bradford teen has been charged with aggravated assault. His name cannot be released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The case is now before the courts and police will not be making any further comment on the matter.
