Tractor-trailer crash snarls traffic at Hwy. 400/11 split

No one was injured after the transport truck crashed through the guide rail in the southbound lanes, police say

Emergency crews responded to a tractor-trailer crash at 12:50 p.m., Sunday, and arrived to find that it had broken through the guide rail on the southbound ramp of Highway 400-11 split, just north of Barrie.

An Ontario Provincial Police officer at the scene said the driver of the truck was not injured and that it was the only vehicle involved.

Police say the driver lost control as they were trying to merge with traffic travelling south from Highway 11.

There was extensive damage to the metal guide rail and a light pole was also struck. Diesel fuel was also reported to be leaking from the vehicle.

Crews were still on the scene as of 5 p.m. attempting to extricate the truck and trailer from the ditch area.

Traffic has been backed up along Highway 400 north of the scene as work continues.
