Tractor-trailer fire snarls traffic on Hwy 11 north of Orillia

Police say the highway has been reopened with the exception of the right lane on the north side of the highway as the cleanup continues

An early-morning tractor-trailer fire shut down both sides of Highway 11 north of Orillia early this morning.

Police say the fire and efforts to douse the flames sparked the closure of both sides of the busy north-south highway at around 4 a.m.

According to a news release, at 3:52 a.m. Bracebridge OPP officers along with Gravenhurst Fire Department and Muskoka EMS were dispatched to a tractor trailer hauling diesel that was on fire on Highway 11 North in Gravenhurst near Sparrow Lake Route D.

Fortunately, no one was injured and the fire was not related to the fuel, states the news release. A second vehicle was ordered to transfer the fuel.

Highway 11 South was re-opened shortly after 5 a.m.

One lane of Highway 11 North remains closed until the transfer is complete and the disabled vehicle is removed.

It's unclear what caused the fire.
