Truck beached; driver faces impaired driving charges

TINY TOWNSHIP - A member of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on patrol of Tiny Beaches Road North at 3:39 a.m. May 25, 2019 noticed a truck stuck on the sand beach of Balm Beach.

The officer located the driver and entered into a drinking and driving investigation upon speaking with the male driver. As a result of the initial investigation the driver was transported to detachment and the truck which had failed to negotiate the curve at the beach front was towed and impounded.

Charged is Thomas Jordan, 28, of Tiny Township with the following:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

His towed vehicle was impounded for seven days and he was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 6, 2019.

At 10 p.m. May 24, 2019 officers were dispatched to a report from motorists of a black pickup truck travelling west bound on Highway 12 at a high rate of speed. The officers located a vehicle matching the provided descriptions on William Street at Coral Springs Crescent in Midland.

Upon speaking with the male driver the officer entered into a drinking and driving investigation. This investigation resulted in Joseph Pellerin 35 years of St. Charles, Ontario being charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

His vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days and he was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 6, 2019.

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways and trails. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
