Woman accused of assaulting police in downtown Orillia

Incident occurred as officers responded to complaint from store employee, police say

The Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested an individual for assaulting a peace officer, after refusing to leave a business in downtown Orillia.

On June 15, shortly before 11:15 a.m., a store employee contacted police regarding an individual yelling and banging on the windows of the business. The individual refused to leave and appeared to be consuming an alcoholic beverage. Upon police arrival, the individual again refused to leave the location. While attempting to arrest the individual, two police officers were assaulted. Officers were able to subdue the suspect without further incident.

As a result, Susan McGee, 26, of Orillia, was charged with the following:

  • Assault peace officer (two counts)
  • Resist police officer

The accused was released on an undertaking and will appear on July 12 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia.
