Wrong-way driver arrested on Hwy. 400

A vehicle travelling southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 400 was safely stopped by officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment near Quarry Road in Tay Township, after responding to a call from a motorist at approximately 3:24 a.m., May 22, 2022.

Officers spoke with the driver after relocating to a safe place on the highway and entered into a drinking and driving investigation resulting in the following Criminal Code driving charges for the vehicle driver Michael Mullen, 60 years, of Seguin Township.

  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on June 9, 2022 and also faces a driver's licence suspension and vehicle impoundment as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines 

OPP officers also conducted 12 Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere R.I.D.E. spot checks at random locations throughout the detachment area over the Victoria Day weekend checking 370 drivers and vehicles in the interest of road safety.
