Postcard Memories is a weekly series of historic postcard views and photos submitted by Marcel Rousseau.

Some were previously published by the Orillia Museum of Art and History and in the book Postcard Memories Orillia.

The Atherley Grist Mill was located on the lake side of Creighton Street south of Balsam Road.

Alexander Kennedy built the mill around 1860 using local limestone. Mr. Kennedy also ran a general store in Atherley.

Kennedy also purchased the large building at the southwest corner of Peter and Mississaga Streets in Orillia. It was known at that time as the Kennedy Block.

The abandoned ruins shown in this postcard, circa 1915, were slowly dismantled by local residents who made good use of the limestone by building homes in the area. Orchard Point Inn is visible across The Narrows.
