Grand Trunk Railway station on Front Street has roots dating back more than 100 years

Postcard Memories is a weekly series of historic postcard views and photos submitted by Marcel Rousseau.

Some were previously published by the Orillia Museum of Art and History and in the book Postcard Memories Orillia.

This building was originally the Midland Railway Station and was located at the foot of Mississaga Street.

In 1897, it was moved to Front Street, south of King Street. When fire destroyed the renovated station in 1916, a new station was built a little to the west of the old site.

After the decline of rail transportation and the removal of the tracks, the station was used for many years by the Orillia Chamber of Commerce.

The city sold the property to a private developer last year. It is not known what the plans are for the property.
