The new swing bridge at Atherley was built in 1925 and replaced the iron bridge built in 1890. In this view looking south from the railway bridge, three concrete arches can be seen on the Atherley side of the bridge and one arch on the Orillia side.

Construction is still in progress with a section of the old iron bridge being removed by a barge on the right side of this early photo. The new bridge was built on the south side of the old bridge before being removed.

Two of the spans from the 1890 iron bridge are still in use at Duck Bay Road in Waubaushene.
