Simcoe Lodge offered beautiful views of The Narrows

Back in the 1920s, this hotel was situated on Creighton Street which was the main road to Brechin during this era
172 Atherley from Simcoe Lodge.
This postcard captures an idyllic scene from Simcoe Lodge, circa 1924.

Postcard Memories is a weekly series of historic postcard views and photos submitted by Marcel Rousseau.

Some were previously published by the Orillia Museum of Art and History and in the book Postcard Memories Orillia.

Built in the early 1900s, the Simcoe Lodge was a large two-storey hotel facing The Narrows on what is now Creighton Street. It was located near the current site of the Lakeside Motel.

When this postcard was mailed in 1924, Creighton Street was the main road to Brechin. Going east on Highway 12 from Orillia the road turned right after crossing The Narrows, proceeded past the Simcoe Lodge, then turned left toward Brechin.

This pleasant view of the lakeshore, across the road from the Lodge, also shows the Orchard Point Inn across The Narrows.
