Sunshine Motor Camp was a popular spot for tourists

In the 1940s, the camp consisted of several modern cabins, a general store, lunch room and a dance hall known as the Rose Room

Postcard Memories is a weekly series of historic postcard views and photos submitted by Marcel Rousseau.

Some were previously published by the Orillia Museum of Art and History and in the book Postcard Memories Orillia.

The Sunshine Motor Camp was located on the east side of Laclie Street just south of Fittons Road. Laclie Street was also Highway 11 at that time, the main route to cottage country.

The camp consisted of several modern cabins as well as a general store and lunch room not shown here. Also on the property was a dance hall known as the Rose Room.

The Sunshine Camp was operated by Mrs. E. Parkhurst and closed in the mid 1950s.

Development soon followed with the opening of the Cairns IGA Plaza and later the Laclie Street Plaza.
