The main street of Brechin in the 1960s was a happening place and the focal point was the Victoria Hotel, affectionately known as “the Vic.”

Built around 1890, the Victoria Hotel was a three-storey brick building with local limestone capping the windows and main entranceway facing King Street, in the heart of Brechin. Thomas and Cecelia Roach where the owners at that time.

After Thomas died in 1920, his son George ran the hotel for a time. Fred and Juliette Mitchell purchased the hotel in 1936 and for the next 36 years the “Vic” continued to be the favourite stopping place in the Brechin area. The “Vic” was demolished in the 1980s.
