On May 14 & 15th, 2022, District 123 hosted its inaugural conference in Barrie, Ontario, located in Division N of Toastmasters International’s newest District 123.

Division N reaches far and wide from Alliston/Innisfil all the way to Sault Ste. Marie/Timmins and the many communities in between (Sudbury, North Bay, Orillia, Collingwood, Midland, and Barrie)!  They are also very proud to be the home division of two French clubs in Sudbury.

This year’s International Speech Contest was incredibly meaningful, with contestants who spoke of the need for good communication skills, and, now more than ever, to have meaningful conversations with people having ideas different than their own.

Love over hate, listening to others and respecting different opinions were common themes.

The Toastmasters District 123 would like to recognize Alexandre Matte who, representing Voix du Nord in Sudbury, Area 13, Division N, placed first in this incredible contest.

Alexandre is also a founding member of Mots du Midi, an afternoon French club based in Sudbury. The audience got to know more about Alexandre at the conference as he showed them his incredible talent as a singer of French folk songs.  Participants came away wanting to brush up on their own French skills in order to communicate better in both Canadian official languages.  Thank you/Merci, Alexandre for that inspiration.

Alexandre will represent District 123 in the International Speech Contest for Region 6; and potentially at the World Championship of Public Speaking in Nashville, Tennessee in August, 2022.
