Georgian College’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program offers valuable experiential learning setting students up for success in the community. ECE program co-ordinator Chiara Johnson (far right) discusses the curriculum with ECE professors Jennifer Shelswell and Martha Kovack.

Georgian College is proud to offer more than an education.

In partnership with industry and community leaders, the college promises an experiential learning opportunity for its students and offers relevant, cutting-edge curriculum and quality work placements with top employers.

Graduates enter the workforce armed with the skills and mindset needed to be innovative thinkers and changemakers who can transform their workplaces and communities.

Shaping the minds of our future leaders and changemakers

Georgian’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program is delivered in four semesters and students have the option to complete the program in two years with a fall, winter or summer intake. Another option is students can elect to complete all four semesters consecutively in under 18 months beginning in the winter term.

The program’s cutting-edge curriculum is designed to give students the knowledge and skills to work in Early Learning Centres both in community childcare environments or EarlyOn Centres, which offer free, high-quality programs for families and children from birth to six years old. Graduates can also work in full-day kindergarten classrooms as the designated Early Childhood Educator in the classroom.

Program Co-ordinator and Professor, Early Childhood Education Chiara Johnson says, “Anyone passionate about working with children from newborns to age 12 may find the ECE program a perfect fit for them. Upon completion of the program, graduates become eligible to register with the College of Early Childhood Educators, which is another great benefit. In addition, Georgian has many articulation agreements with other college and university programs for students looking to further their education.”

Why study ECE at Georgian?

Georgian builds connections with community partners like the school boards, County of Simcoe and local childcare centres making it easier for graduates to find employment.

As part of its diversity, equity and inclusion commitment, the college supports students and staff who come from diverse backgrounds and passions.

In addition to small class sizes, students participate in experiential learning opportunities in both indoor and outdoor environments and have seven-week block placements with an opportunity to complete them in their home community.

What is the deadline to apply for the ECE program?

The application cycle for 2023/24 is now open and it’s not too late for prospective students to apply for the winter, summer and fall 2023 ECE programs (Orillia Campus).
