The door is now open on a new season of pickleball. The courts at Homewood Park opened Wednesday.

Spring has sprung!

The temperatures have risen and the snow has melted. And, that means the time for some outdoor pursuits is upon us.

Earlier today, the nets were erected and the doors were opened to welcome players at the pickleball courts at Homewood Park. The courts at Walter Henry Park in West Orillia have also been opened, says Melissa Gowanlock, the city's manager of communications.

"Typically, the city aims to have the tennis courts and pickleball courts ready for the season at the beginning of May; however, due to the favourable conditions we have been able to open Homewood Park and Water Henry Park pickleball courts early this season," said Gowanlock.

However, the pickleball courts at Tudhope Park have not yet opened. Additionally, local tennis courts, at the West Orillia Sports Complex and Kitchener Park, also remain closed.

The opening of those courts are "subject to weather conditions and staff availability," said Gowanlock.
