Heat warning remains in effect: Environment Canada

Heat Warning in effect for:

  • Newmarket - Georgina - Northern York Region
  • Pickering - Oshawa - Southern Durham Region
  • Uxbridge - Beaverton - Northern Durham Region
  • Vaughan - Richmond Hill - Markham

A period of hot weather continues.

Daytime high temperatures in excess of 30 degrees Celsius, with humidex values in the high thirties to low forties, are expected. Overnight lows near 20 degrees Celsius are also expected through this period, providing little relief from the heat.

A slightly cooler airmass may move into the area this weekend, however, there is considerable uncertainty.

Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Check on older family, friends, and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Keep your house cool. Block the sun by closing curtains or blinds.
