Ralph Cipolla, while awaiting results, points to a picture of him when he won his first election to city council in 1977.

Four incumbents will be returning to the Orillia city council table. But one incumbent lost his bid to rejoin his peers.

In Ward 1, incumbent David Campbell finished in top spot, garnering 1,202 votes according to unofficial results as of 10 p.m. Newcomer Whitney Smith will be the other Ward 1 representative after getting 951 votes.

Rob Kloostra, who was seeking a third term on council, finished a distant third with 475 votes. He originally announced his intention to run for the mayor's position, but later withdrew from the race. Later, he decided to seek election in Ward 1 after two successful elections as a Ward 2 candidate.

In Ward 2, Ralph Cipolla returns after topping his ward with 740 votes. Political rookie Luke Leatherdale also earned a spot on council, after getting 708 votes.

Jay Fallis was re-elected in Ward 3 after getting 1,310 votes. He will be joined by Jeff Czetwerzuk, who surprised many with his second-place finish after getting 860 ballots cast in his favour.

Veteran Tim Lauer topped the polls among all councillors by getting 1,362 votes in Ward 4. He will be joined by Janet-Lynne Durnford, who had a strong showing in her first run at city council, with 919 votes.

We will have much more on the winners and losers in each ward later tonight or tomorrow morning.
