THUNDER BAY - A young driver is facing numerous charges after being found operating an unsafe motor vehicle from the comfort of a lawn chair.
According to a Thunder Bay Police Service media release, officers with the traffic unit stopped a pick-up truck Monday afternoon on Island Drive.
The vehicle was initially stopped for using licence plates that were not authorized for that vehicle. But upon approaching the vehicle, officers noticed the driver was seated in a folding lawn chair where the driver’s seat should have been.
Officers determined the vehicle was unsafe because of a number of other defects, including a broken windshield, a defective door handle preventing the doors from opening, an unsecure load in the box, and no seatbelt buckles.
The driver was charged with numerous offences, including driving with a suspended license and operating a motor vehicle with no insurance.
The vehicle has been impounded.
