There is still lots of fun to be had in February!

Mariposa Arts Theatre (MAT) Film Nights are back, with Rosie playing Feb. 22. Here’s the synopsis: “An orphaned Indigenous girl is forced to live with her reluctant, street-smart, francophone aunty and her two gender-bending best friends in 80's Montreal.” This is a great Canadian film which has garnered some excellent reviews.

MAT Film Nights have two screenings, at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Galaxy Theatre in Orillia. Admission is $15 per person, cash only, and ticket sales begin in person one hour before each show.

The next films are: March 8: Buffy St. Marie: Carry It On; March 22: Living; April 12: Riceboy Sleeps; and finally April 26: Emily. MAT film nights support the MAT warehouse and all the great shows they put on.

With the merger of the Orillia Fine Arts Association (OFAA) and the Orillia District Arts Council (ODAC), OFAA’s Visual Arts Group has re-formed and is starting anew. This once-a-month get together of visual artists will now meet at Creative Nomad Studios, the last Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be an opportunity to socialize, and to paint or draw, or just observe; whatever members would like. There might also be guest speakers, on occasion.

The first meeting is Feb. 23 and attendees are asked to bring their choice of paints, markers, pastels, and canvas and/or paper. Treats will be provided.

After being closed for a couple of months for renovations, the Stephen Leacock Museum opens again on Feb. 10, with A Leacock Love Story, just in time for Valentine’s Day. For more information, click here.

Also Feb. 10, join local artist Meg Leslie and immerse yourself in the world of clay at a workshop at the Orillia Museum of Art and History. The workshop starts at noon and you can register here.

Don’t forget about the Old Dance Hall Players' improv group Valentine’s show, Love Is a Cattlefield, at the Orillia Opera House this Saturday at 8 p.m. This is guaranteed to be hilarious, so what are you waiting for? Get your tickets here.

More great live music this weekend at Couchiching Craft Brewery, with Madison Mueller Friday night, SAMMY Saturday night and the Chris Robinson Will Davis jazz duo Sunday afternoon.

Also, don’t miss Karaoke this Thursday at Tammie’s Place and this Friday at Lake Country Grill.

Enjoy your week, and don’t forget to shop your local artists and artisans for Valentine’s Day this year.

If you have arts news, send it to [email protected] by Tuesday at noon to be included.
