The Play That Goes Wrong is a 'terrific' comedy, says columnist. The Mariposa Arts Theatre's production ends its run this weekend.

Well folks you only have one more weekend to check out Mariposa Arts Theatre’s The Play That Goes Wrong, at the Orillia Opera House this Thursday to Sunday only.

We saw it last Sunday and it really is laugh-out-loud hilarious. Great cast, amazing set, fantastic script ... there is nothing that you won’t love. Trust me on this one, nothing will cast out the February blahs more than this terrific comedy. Get your tickets at www.orilliaoperahouse.ca

This Friday night from 6 to 9:30 p.m., come out to St. Paul’s Centre for another fun pub night, this time with local songstress Meredith Boyes-Warboys. Lots of great music, a cash bar, and pub food available for purchase. Just $10 cash cover to get in. These nights really are an excellent night out, come check it out this week!

This Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., come support the Mariposa Grandmothers to Grandmothers group at its annual book and — new! — puzzle exchange. Storyteller Sue Charters will be telling stories at 10:30 a.m. No charge for admission, but feel free to donate to the grandmothers, all proceeds will go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

This winter’s Third Age Learning offering is three lectures in three weeks, with virtual and in person offerings. It started Feb. 14 but you can still register and catch up on the first lecture virtually. The theme is Exploring Ethics in a Complex World and you can get tickets here.

Coming up Feb. 24, The Cellar Singers are presenting Durufle’s Requiem ... and if you haven’t heard it before, it is absolutely lovely. Featuring soloist Autumns Debassige and organist Matthew Larkin, this will be a gorgeous evening of music with a very talented choir. The show is at 7:30 p.m. at St. James’ Anglican Church, and you can get your tickets at www.thecellarsingers.com.

Under happening quite a bit later, but you should think about your tickets ... Boots and Hearts has announced its full lineup for the big festival Aug. 8 to 11. They’ve got Cody Johnson, Brothers Osborne, Matchbox Twenty, Thomas Rhett, Carly Pearce, and Jason Aldean, along with scores of other country music stars. Roots North Music Festival is having its 10th anniversary this year, and to celebrate, they have our favourite hometown heroes band, Bleeker, as special headliners this year. The lineup is stellar, and includes Begonia, The Redhill Valleys, Julian Taylor, Spencer Burton, and Bleeker. Weekend passes are on sale now here.

Dress for Success Orillia Barrie is celebrating its 10th anniversary as well, and doing it with a very special fundraising concert featuring Broadsway, on March 8 at St. Paul’s Centre. Apparently Broadsway is "a little theatre, a little jazz, a little cabaret, and a whole lot of fun!” So, definitely worth going, having a great time and supporting a wonderful local charity. Mark Live at the Met’s La Forza del Destino on your calendar, 12:55 p.m. March 9 at the Galaxy Theatre in Orillia. It will be a good one!

At Couchiching Craft Brewery, Jakob Pearce and Dave Hewitt Friday; James Gray Saturday; and Chris Lemay Sunday at 1 p.m. Lake Country Grill has karaoke Sunday and PICNIC Tapas and Wine Bar has live music every Sunday afternoon on its Sunday show. 

Next Thursday, LiveBarrie presents YukYuk’s Comedy Show at Couchiching Craft Brewery.
