Parking Lot #3 at the Base of The Blue Mountain near the inn will become the go-to location to celebrate the life of Gord Downie formerly of The Tragically Hip, who will have passed away three years to the day when the celebration and drive-in concert begins at 5 p.m.
"I approached the resort and asked what they had on their event agenda, and it turned out to be right place, right time – for them, and for us," says organizer Forrest Jones of Countryfest productions. "The Blue Mountain Inn parking lot is closed (until ski season) but right now, there’s not as much happening so we arranged to work together to make this event happen."
Tickets can be purchased online at www.snapd.com/practicallyhip for as low as $59 per carload of people.
"We have all the approvals from health units, and have protocols in place to maintain social distances when out of the car; people need to remember there is still a pandemic around, but it shouldn’t prevent us from having fun events and memorable events like this to attend," said Jones.
“People have been locked up for months, they need something to do, something to look forward too, and also - we need to celebrate the life of Gord Downie so what better than to have a party, socially responsible, and have the #1 Tragically Hip band on the planet perform," says Jones. "Dean Hughes is the frontman for the band, as lead singer."
A portion of event proceeds will go to support the Downie-Wenjack Fund.
Special pricing is available for those out of town at the Blue Mountain Resort.
The show begins at 5 p.m. on Oct. 17, with the parking lot opening only at 4 p.m. Tickets range in price from $59 to $99 per vehicle from back row to front row. Opening artist from King City, Ontario, is Matt Morson.
