Jazz/theatre/cabaret group Broadsway will be performing in a fundraising show for Dress for Success Orillia/Barrie on March 8 at St. Paul's Centre.

I enjoyed a beautiful performance of Black in Canada at the Orillia Opera House, presented by Arts Orillia. A moving, deeply evocative and joyous dance performance that we were very lucky to have brought to us.

If you are disappointed you missed that, and look forward to more dance, good news! Arts Orillia is bringing Julie et l’univers to us on March 22, again at the Orillia Opera House. This work is presented by Compagne de la Citadelle, from Montreal. It will be amazing, guaranteed. Come check it out, tickets at www.orilliaoperahouse.ca. Oh, and if you are an Orillia Concert Association member, you get a discount!

This Saturday is The Cellar Singers winter concert, and it will be a doozy, featuring Durufle’s Requiem, and other motets. With local excellent soloist Autumn Debassige in the driver’s seat. You can get your tickets at www.thecellarsingers.com and it’s at St. James’ Anglican Church.

Or, if you want something on the complete other end of the spectrum, come out to this Saturday night’s Drag Disco, at Couchiching Craft Brewery. Tickets are $25 and you get to dance the night away with these fabulous queens. This is presented by Three Birds Salon. Get your tickets here.

Don’t forget, Samantha Windover is performing at the Old Church in Hawkestone, 298 Line 11 South, Oro-Medonte, this Sunday at 2 p.m. Admission is just $15 at the door, with all proceeds going to Samantha. Enjoy, she is incredible!

We have lots of great stuff coming up in March, including the Orillia Concert Band’s show, featuring all the movie songs you love to sing, on March 2 at St. Paul’s Centre.

Mariposa in Concert presents Boreal, on March 9, also at St. Paul’s Centre. Boreal features well-loved and very talented singers Katherine Wheatley, Tannis Slimmon and Angie Nussey, all together, all bringing us into the springtime. This will be a very special night. You can grab your tickets here. It's guaranteed to be a great night of music!

And, just the night before, March 8 at St. Paul’s Centre, come and celebrate International Women’s Day, with Broadsway in Concert, a fundraiser for Dress for Success Orillia/Barrie. It’s Dress for Success’ 10th anniversary, so come support and enjoy with them.

Broadsway is Heather Bambrick, Diane Leah, and Julie Michels, all incredible musicians in their own right. They will be performing a mix of Broadway tunes, including some theatrical arrangement, some jazz, doing some cabaret…this is going to be a really fun night out for everyone, men and women. You can get your tickets here.

And, looking still further into March, don’t forget to get your tickets to the Orillia Silver Band and Orillia Vocal Ensemble’s joint show on March 24 at St. Paul’s Centre. Proceeds will go the Green Haven Centre in Orillia, and there will be lots of show-stopping moments in this eclectic concert, with something for everyone: songs from Joseph, Negro spirituals, and fantastic band tunes. Get your tickets here www.orilliasilverband.com

So, there you go, a little taste of some of what’s to come, in the springtime! It’s going to be a fantastic March.

Live music this weekend, of course. Quayle’s Brewery in Oro-Medonte is having a Comedy Night Friday; and Couchiching Craft Brewery is having YukYuks on Thursday. Friday, Valerie Burns and Dave Chun are live at Couchiching Craft Brewery; and Sunday afternoon, Will Davis and Chris Robinson bring Jazz in the Afternoon to CCBC.

Have a great week, and treat yourself to some wonderful arts and culture. It’s like a little springtime in your soul!

If you have arts news, send it to [email protected] by Tuesday at noon to be included.
