COVID-19 puts three more people in Simcoe Muskoka in hospital

There are 13 new cases in Simcoe County and 2 in Muskoka today; Five of the new cases are in Barrie

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 13 new cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County today and two in Muskoka. Three people have been admitted to local hospitals within the last 24 hours.

There are five new cases in Barrie today, including a woman between 18 and 34 years old whose case is linked to close contact. The remaining four cases are still under investigation and involve one man between 35 and 44 years old, two women between 45 and 64 years old and one woman over 80 years old. 

There are three new cases in Bradford West Gwillimbury today including a woman between 18 and 34 years old, a man between 45 and 64 years old and a woman between 65 and 79 years old. The latter of the three cases is reported as a community-acquired case. The other two cases are under investigation.

Among the new confirmed cases is a woman from Clearview Township and a man from Wasaga Beach. 

The Clearview woman's case is linked to an institutional outbreak. She is between 18 and 34 years old. Hers is the only case included in today's update with a confirmed link to an institutional outbreak.

The Wasaga man is between 45 and 64 years old, and the transmission for his case is still under investigation. 

There are currently five long-term care facilities with COVID-19 outbreaks confirmed by the health unit including Simcoe Manor (Beeton) Riverwood Senior Living (Alliston), Waterford Retirement Community (Barrie), IOOF Baldwin Lane (Barrie), and Granite Ridge Retirement Facility (Gravenhurst).

The remaining three Simcoe County cases include two women and a man between 45 and 64 years old. One woman is from Innisfil and the other is from New Tecumseth, both cases are linked to close contact. The man is from New Tecumseth and his case is under investigation. 

The two Muskoka cases are both residents of Huntsville. One is a man between 45 and 64 years old whose case is under investigation. The other is a woman over 80 years old whose case is linked to travel. 

The health unit has reported three new hospitalizations since yesterday's update, and 52 recoveries. There are 167 lab-confirmed, active cases in the region.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 1,485 cases of COVID-19, with 1,402 of those in Simcoe County. There are 1,262 cases listed as recovered. Seven people are currently hospitalized, five in Simcoe and two in Muskoka. The health unit has recorded 50 deaths.

The incidence rate for Simcoe County is 265 cases per 100,000 people.
