A case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at a south-end Barrie high school.

According to a letter issued Wednesday by Innisdale principal Brian MacIsaac, officials at the Little Avenue school were notified by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) about the positive case.

"The SMDHU has determined, through their investigation, that there have been no close contacts to the individual who tested positive for COVID-19 identified at the school," MacIsaac says in the letter. "As there have been no close contacts identified, the SMDHU does not recommend having your child tested unless they are showing symptoms of COVID-19. Therefore, your child may continue to come to school."

School officials do not say whether it is in a student or staff member. Due to privacy laws, the health unit does not release personal or identifying information about any staff or student who is ill unless deemed necessary.

There have now been 21 cases reported at Simcoe County schools so far.
