Five Orillia residents among 52 COVID cases in region today

Cases also include Oro-Medonte, Severn residents; Clearview resident has died after testing positive

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 52 new cases of COVID-19 in the region today.

The health unit has also confirmed the death of a Clearview Township resident. The health unit has confirmed only that a Clearview resident who tested positive for COVID-19 has died and has not yet provided further details on the individual's age and sex.

The breakdown of cases provided by the health unit is as follows: 

  • Orillia (5): One man between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, one woman between 65 and 79 years old, and a man and a woman over 80. All case transmissions still under investigation.
  • Severn (3): One woman between 18 and 34 years old and two women between 65 and 79 years old.
  • Oro-Medonte (2): One woman between 65 and 79 years old and one man over 80. Both cases under investigation.
  • Barrie (11): Two girls under 18, seven individuals between 18 and 34 years old, one woman between 35 and 44 years old, and one woman between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact. The rest are under investigation.
  • Collingwood (2): One man between 45 and 64 years old and one person between 35 and 44 years old. Both cases under investigation.
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (7): Two individuals between 18 and 34 years old, four individuals between 45 and 64 years old and a woman between 65 and 79 years old. All case transmissions are under investigation. 
  • Innisfil (2): One man and one woman between 45 and 64 years old. Transmission source is under investigation.
  • Midland (1): One woman between 18 and 34 years old whose case transmission is under investigation.
  • Tiny (1): One man between 35 and 33 years old whose case is under investigation. 
  • Tay (1): One man between 18 and 34 years old whose case is under investigation.
  • Four cases are listed with location information still pending and there is one new case in Gravenhurst and one in Bracebridge. There are nine new cases in New Tecumseth, one in Adjala-Tosorontio and three in Essa today.

The local health unit has now confirmed 2,791 cases of COVID-19, with 2,318 of those cases recovered and 57 cases ending in death. There are approximately 400 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, with the majority of those in Simcoe County.

There are at least 16 people from Simcoe County hospitalized.

There have been 2,670 cases confirmed in just Simcoe County, with 2,214 of those now recovered and 55 deaths.
